Central Bank makes new appointment

The Central Bank has appointed its assistant director general for financial institutions supervision, with Jonathan Mc Mahon taking up the role.

Prior to his appointment, Mr McMahon was a director at London-based consulting firm Promontory Financial Group. Mr McMahon has worked with both banks and public sector bodies globally during the financial crisis, and led Promontory's work with the UK's National Audit Office on its review of the British government's actions during the crisis.

He has also worked with Deloitte and Touche and the UK's Financial Services Authority (FSA) in a number of roles.

In his new role, Mr McMahon will report to the Head of Financial Regulation, Matthew Elderfield.

"The appointment of Jonathan to the Central Bank is an important step in creating the new regulatory structure", said Mr Elderfield. "His experience will allow the organisation to develop a new risk-based supervisory approach for our key financial institutions."
