Detectives from Ballyfermot and Naas Garda stations will travel to England today to interview a Dublin man about the murder of two men whose bodies were recovered from the Grand Canal earlier this month.

The man, from the Ballyfermot area of west Dublin, was arrested by detectives from New Scotland Yard at Kentish Town, London, on Saturday. Scotland Yard confirmed yesterday that a man, who they said was in his 30s, had been arrested and was being detained for suspected forgery. They declined further comment.

Gardai have also declined to comment on the arrest but it is understood that the detention follows a joint operation between the Garda and British police.

The detained man is known to gardai, has a criminal background and is understood to be a suspect in the murders of Mr Patrick Murray (19) and Mr Darren Carey (20), both of whom were shot in the head before being dumped in the Grand Canal at Newcastle, Co Dublin.
