Brosnihan yet to put pen to paper

Ulster have denied signing Natal Sharks loose forward Warren Brosnihan.

Ulster have denied signing Natal Sharks loose forward Warren Brosnihan.

It had been reported that the South African had already signed a contract with Ulster that would commence on March 1st.

And the Natal Rugby Union are believed to have confirmed the move, claiming the 30-year-old had been offered a two-year contract with the ‘White Knights’.

However, Ulster released a statement this evening categorically denying the signing, and it would appear if any such deal is on the table, nothing has been signed as yet.

The Ulster statement read: "Warren Brosnihan has not signed for Ulster despite a report on the Internet that he had.

"The IRFU (Ulster Branch) can confirm that it is in negotiations with a number of players, however, no contracts have been agreed and it is unlikely that any will be signed for 2-3 weeks.

Brosnihan has played 50 times for Natal but earned just one South Africa cap (v Australia in 1997).

The Natal Sharks chief executive officer Brian van Zyl did confirm that Brosnihan was leaving the province, saying: "Warren leaves with our blessing and we wish him every success in his career move.

"He has been a valuable member of our squad. He has served Natal with distinction and we are sorry to lose him."
