THE YOUNG Brazilian woman whose body was found in a house in Roscommon town last week suffered a single stab wound to the heart, a coroner's court in Ballagh-aderreen, Co Roscommon, heard yesterday.
At a preliminary inquest into the death of Kezia Gomes Rosa, Det Garda Chris Murray of Roscommon Garda station said that at 7.25pm on August 19th last he attended the scene of a suspicious death. Ms Gomes Rosa was identified to him by Valdivino Alexandre de Morais, who knew the deceased.
The next day at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe, Co Galway, he identified the body to State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy.
After the postmortem at 7pm that evening, Dr Cassidy told him death was a result of a single stab wound to the heart and other injuries.
The jury heard that Dr John Keenan from the medical centre in Roscommon attended the scene of the stabbing at Lanesboro Street and pronounced death at 7.47pm on August 19th.
Mr de Morais confirmed to the jury that he had identified the body for gardaí, and that he had known the dead woman for 18 months.
The jury told coroner Desmond O'Connor that they were satisfied that death was due to a stab wound to the heart and other injuries and he formally recorded this as the cause of death.
The coroner adjourned the inquest until December 17th.
