Irish comedian Brendan O’Carroll has been nominated for two British Academy of Film and Television Awards (Baftas) for his hit comedy Mrs Brown's Boys.

The sitcom that critics love to hate, has once again confounded its detractors by proving a big success on the BBC having previously been a huge ratings winner for RTÉ.

The second series peaked in February with the final episode being watched by a total of 8.3 million viewers in Britain. It was also the best selling DVD in British stores.

O’Carroll said recently that he has been given approval by Universal Studios to make a film of the series. A third series has also been commissioned to start at the end of this year.
