Attacked man still in intensive care in Drogheda

Gardaí in Drogheda said they are following a definite line of inquiry following the attack which left the man with serious head injuries.

The incident happened in St Dominic's Park, in the Rathmullen area of the town, shortly before 10pm.

The emergency services were alerted and the man was taken by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.

His condition was described last night as stable, but he remains in the intensive care unit.

Gardaí believe the man is from eastern Europe, but his exact country of origin has yet to be determined. It is understood he was assaulted by up to four other eastern European men but no arrests had been made last night.
