Gardaí investigating the theft of firearms and ammunition from a gun shop near Ashford, Co Wicklow, have appealed for anyone with information about the crime to contact them.

Some 29 firearms and ammunition were taken from the registered gun shop some distance from the village at Coolawinna Park, on the Ashford to Newcastle road.

The robbery, which is thought to have involved at least five people, some of whom entered the premises through a roof, took place in the early hours of September 8th. The location is a rural area not far from the well-known Hunters Hotel.

It us understood the firearms stolen were shotguns and .22-calibre rifles used by hunters.

Two of the guns were recovered by gardaí in the boot of a car in the Bluebell area of Dublin three days ago. A 26-year-old man was arrested. He was subsequently released and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
