The Aer Rianta group of unions will hold a two-hour work stoppage on November 4th in protest at the decision by the Minister for Transport to break up the company.

According to one of the union representatives, notice will be served on the company later today to carry out the industrial action on Tuesday, November 4th, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The action will encompass all five unions at the State-owned airports operator and will affect Dublin, Shannon and Cork airports.

The unions are seeking a meeting with the Minister chaired by an independent facilitator to discuss Mr Brennan's plans for Aer Rianta.

If this meeting is agreed before the planned strike action, the unions indicated they will defer or postpone the action.

However, if no meeting is agreed the unions claim that the "limited" action proposed in two weeks will be followed by a series of "rolling actions".

They unions are angry that they have received no response to a letter written to Mr Brennan two weeks ago calling on him to meet with them.

Union-represented staff in Dublin, Cork and Shannon airports voted overwhelmingly last month for industrial action following a ballot.

The unions are also planning more severe disruption at Dublin, Cork and Shannon airports to coincide with the start of Ireland's EU Presidency next January.
