Perennial metal legends AC/DC announced on their website that they will play the Co Kildare venue on Sunday, June 28th as part of a summer tour which includes dates at Wembley Stadium and Hampden Park.

Punchestown, where the Oxegen festival is held every year, has a capacity for 70,000 fans.

The band, which released Black Ice, their first studio album in eight years in September, are one of the biggest live draws in the world at the moment.

The album, which has been better received than any since their mega-million selling 1980 record Back in Black, went No.1 in 29 countries including Ireland.

All 13,000 tickets for their concert in the O2 on April 18th sold out within three minutes of going on sale in October.

At one stage after the tickets had gone, there were 12,000 people logged on to the Ticketmaster website and promoters MCD said they could have sold out 10 shows.

The announcement of the Punchestown concert will discomfort touts who have been selling standing tickets for the O2 gig at multiples of the price charged on the ticket.

At present two standing tickets are available on Ebay for €425 while two floor tickets are selling for €600.

Details on the sale of tickets will be avaiable from Monday.
