63% claim to be informed on treaty

REFERENDUM COMMISSION:SIXTY THREE per cent of voters now have some understanding of the Lisbon Treaty, a rise of just 3 per cent since the last survey conducted in July for the Referendum Commission.

However, nine out of 10 voters now say they are likely to vote according to the behaviour and attitudes survey of 500 voters, conducted a week ago.

Chairman of the commission, Mr Justice Frank Clarke, said there is high public understanding of the key elements of the treaty. “But there is still misunderstanding and confusion over some particular issues, and we hope to address this during the remainder of the campaign.”

Some 72 per cent of voters said they were extremely likely to vote while a further 18 per cent indicated they were “quite likely” to vote in the October 2nd referendum.
