Bulgari, Boucheron and a cool home bar

A Bulgari bombe ring, a Boucheron watch, and a hand-dyed walnut and chrome retro-style home bar are some of the highlights of sales on this week.

With over 340 lots, highlights of a live online auction held by John Weldon of Temple Bar this Tuesday, June 20th, include a two carat diamond ring. With a valuation from Haniken Jewellers in New York at $21,850/€17,000 from 2017, the ring is listed at €6,000-€9,000. An internally flawless Tiffany 0.72 carat diamond solitaire, originally bought for £7,600, is listed at €2,000-€3,000.

The sale also lists an IWC Ingenieur automatic wristwatch which comes boxed with certificates and extra links. “What will help the sale of this watch is the fact that the vendor kept the box, paperwork and even the cleaning cloth – which has the logo – it’s the complete package and makes my job as an auctioneer easier in selling it,” says Weldon of the piece, which he expects to fetch between €4,000 and €6,000. Also listed is a boxed Bulgari automatic wristwatch, listed at €2,000-€2,400.

O’Reilly’s of Francis Street will hold a live online auction this Wednesday, June 21st. Highlights include a boxed white ceramic and tourmaline bombe ring by Bulgari (€750-€950) and a super pair of chandelier earrings with citrine and diamonds (€900-€1,100). A whopper of an unmounted diamond, weighing 3.22 carats, is seeking €65,000-€70,000, while two important watches are also listed. An 18ct gold Turbogas black dial watch by Bulgari is seeking €5,500-€5,800, and an 18ct gold Solis watch by Boucheron, which was originally purchased in Paris in 2009, is listed at €8,200-€9,200.

Also taking place on Tuesday and Wednesday this week is Victor Mee’s online only June Decorative Sale, where over 800 lots will go under the hammer, with some art deco-style furniture taking centre stage.

Lot 175 is described as an “exceptional quality chrome and walnut console table”, listed at €1,500-€2,500, while lots 254 and 314 are a pair of “exceptional quality” walnut and hand-dyed leather aviator chairs, and a sofa estimated at €2,000-€4,000, and €3,000-€5,000 respectively.

As you would expect, garden wares are aplenty, including a life-size cast iron statue of a deer (lot 512A, €2,000-€3,000). Standing at almost two and a half meters tall is a fountain with cherub and carp design on lion’s paw feet (lot 512, €1,500-€2,500).

Artwork includes pieces by Cecil Maguire (lot 264, Fishing Trawlers, €3,500-€6.500), Arthur Maderson, George Gillespie and Percy French. Also listed is Vote Pat, by Irish artist Graham Knuttel, who died in May this year. His often sinister paintings of gaudy characters, cats and fish epitomised the Celtic Tiger era, and were collected by film stars such as Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone. On first meeting the Rocky actor, Knuttel commented “Jaysus, your face is stretched more than my canvases”.

If a discreet home bar is on your wish list Mee’s sale has quite a cool hand-dyed walnut and chrome retro-style one, estimated at €1,500 to €2,500. Also in walnut are what the auctioneer describes as an “exceptional quality” chest of drawers, with brass mounts and handles in campaign style. Priced at €1,500-€2,500, there is a pair of them to choose from.
