Go Kids:Cavan Sports Partnership has devised a weekend walking festival over the May bank holiday weekend – running from April 29th-May 1st.

There are five walks and the idea is to bring walkers to less explored areas of west Cavan and the Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark. The walks are led by Irish Heart Foundation Walking Leaders and there will be refreshments.

Two walks look particularly family friendly: on Saturday there’s the Ballyconnell Canal Walk which has a diversion into Annagh Woods, a wildlife sanctuary that is home to red squirrels and red deer. It is 5km long and begins at 11am.

On Monday there’s the family scavenger hunt during the Killeshandra Lake and Forest Walk. The 6km walk starts at the community centre in Killeshandra at 2pm and goes through parts of the old Castle Hamilton demesne and along the lake. There are tougher walks suited to adults.
