Women’s Podcast: ‘I save lives for a living. That gives me goosebumps’

"I am actually able to say that I have saved a life, and I don't say that with an ego," says the firefighter Teresa Hudson. "It's like, 'Wow, that's amazing.' It genuinely gives me goosebumps when I say it," she tells Kathy Sheridan, on the latest edition of The Irish Times Women's Podcast, which was recorded in front of an audience at the Little Museum of Dublin on International Women's Day.

Also on the podcast, the aircraft engineer Kate Melady, who says the ratio of women to men in her industry is one to 1,000, and Lisa Levins-Burgess, who was the first woman to join the RNLI lifeboat crew in her native Clogherhead, Co Louth, 22 years ago.

They are joined by the Czech photographer Beta Bajgart, who has taken their pictures for her book A Woman's Work and the upcoming What's She Doing Here? exhibition at the museum, for a discussion of women in male-dominated industries.
