ARDMORE PATTERN FESTIVAL

The celebration of pattern day in Ardmore stretches back generations, although the festival itself was officially relaunched only three years ago. It has pretty much got something for everybody, from guided walks to line dancing, gospel choirs to sandcastle competitions. Now in its 10th year, this is one of the more exotic and engaging festivals on the summer circuit. It begins tomorrow and runs until Sunday, in locations around Dún Laoghaire, in south Co Dublin. Participants from more than 30 countries take part in concerts, workshops, markets and carnivals, with both free and ticketed events. BURLESQUE CLUB

Tomorrow night the Sugar Club, off St Stephen’s Green in Dublin, hosts its monthly night of burlesque and cabaret when its resident troupe takes to the stage. Performers include Trixie Vixen, Doug Giggler and Baby Vegas, in a mix of live music, DJs and comedy. Prizes are on offer for the best-dressed attendees. DINGLE ART

Honora O'Neill is a young artist quickly earning a reputation for herself, having recently received the Jack B Yeats Young Artist Award for her range of seascapes, which includes Conflict Resolved. CORK BUTTER MUSEUM

This often-neglected institution gives a fascinating insight into what was once one of Europe’s largest butter markets. Located in the Shandon area of the city, the exhibition also takes in aspects of the social, commercial and domestic life of Ireland through the ages. The museum is open daily from 10am to 5pm, and admission is a reasonable €4 for adults, €3 for students and seniors and €1.50 for school students; under-12s are free.
