The irrepressible Luke Slott, that dude occasionally seen playing a piano in Grafton Street, is giving away 1,000 free downloads of a special “acoustic” version of a song from his upcoming CD on October 1st.

What makes this release special is that it was recorded by a rocket scientist in Washington. He met sound engineer Kelly Snook, the astrophysicist, through a songwriter friend while playing music clubs in New York and was driven from her Mars research lab at Nasa to her It's Not Rocket Science Studios in central DC for the recording session. There, surrounded by her collection of musical instruments, studio gadgets, toy spaceships and books on astrophysics, he sat and played Kelly a few of his songs and settled on A Few Honest Wordsfor the recording. When he got the track from her a few days later, he said he was amazed at how "she took my simple little guitar song and transformed it into something quite unique". The new CD will be officially available from his website from October 1st. See lukeslott.com.
