A happening henhouse

BLOOM STARTS today in Phoenix Park and runs until next Monday (June 7th).

BLOOM STARTS today in Phoenix Park and runs until next Monday (June 7th).

One of the exhibitors is Shane Houston of Chic-hens, which is based in Burt, Co Donegal (086-0616324). The mechanical engineer and architect model-maker builds hand-made henhouses, two of which grace Dublin Zoo. Prices start from €300.

A painted high-end property costs €670 and is suitable for up to eight hens. Its design makes practical things like cleaning and egg collection easy. The door is recessed within the body of the house in an effort to outfox any enterprising foxes.

Shane is offering the first person who presents a copy of The Irish Times at his stand at Bloom the opportunity to buy this house at 40 per cent off, for €402.
