Barina Construction is making a second attempt to get planning permission for an apartment and retail complex at the former Mongey Plunkett Motors and Esso petrol station on Upper Dorset Street in Dublin's north city centre.
Earlier this year Niall Langan's Barina Construction was turned down for 149 apartments in five and six-storey blocks with ground floor commercial units.
This time around it is looking to build 137 apartments in two blocks, one a five-storey building with penthouse level set back on Dorset Street and a three-storey block with a penthouse level set back on Paradise Place. It is also proposing three retail units and 124 car-parking places on the 1.41-acre site bounded by Paradise Place and Wellington Street Lower.
The apartment complex would have an internal courtyard with controlled pedestrian access from Dorset Street, and Wellington Street Lower.
Previous developments by Barina Construction include Furry Park Court in Howth, Santa Sabina Manor in Sutton, Larch Hill in Santry and Hamilton Hall in Dunboyne.
The Dorset Street area has undergone substantial redevelopment in recent years. There are also plans to turn the nearby Waxworks museum owned by Donie Cassidy TD into a hotel.
