Seven things to do this week

TODAY If you've always fancied building a pond in the garden but didn't know where to start, the Ponds for Wildlife workshop at Tinahely Courthouse Cultural Centre, Co Wicklow, has the answers. Horticulturist Brenda Palmer will be on hand to demonstrate how to make a well-planted, natural-looking water feature that will attract birds and other wild creatures. TOMORROW It's the fifth Garden Heaven event in the RDS Dublin, so expect plenty of exotic plants and flowers, along with a record number of outdoor full-sized designer show gardens sure to turn the greenest fingered types even greener with envy. There are seminars with leading gardening experts, celebrity flower arranging and a children's area. 10am-7pm. Admission €12. www.gardenheaven.ie.

MONDAY Every Monday, Pravda Vision has been getting a dedicated following of movie buffs for its screenings and tonight that modern classic Fargo will be on show in Pravda, Liffey Street, Dublin. Jaws, Shawshank Redemption and Goodfellas are all being shown in coming weeks. Screenings start at 8pm. Admission is free.

TUESDAY At Project in Dublin, b*Spoke theatre company presents Family Stories by Srbljanovic, set in Belgrade during the Milosovic years and described by the playwright as a "slapstick tragedy". The post-show discussion tonight is chaired by Vincent Browne. 8.15pm, tickets €16. Runs until July 2nd.

WEDNESDAY Today at the West Cork Literary Festival Frank Delaney launches the 2005 Fish Anthology of Short Stories. Winning authors will give readings (6pm). On Friday, Sebastian Barry will read from his work (1pm) and Mark Kenny will give a presentation based on her play Allegiance: Michael Collins and Winston Churchill: 1921-1922 (5pm). All events take place in Bantry Public Library.

THURSDAY A New York Songbook is a cabaret of contemporary songs from the Big Apple. Under the musical direction of David Wray, Ellen McElroy, Danna Davis and Kenneth W Gartman bring their brand of urban chic to Droichead Arts Centre, Stockwell Street, Drogheda, Co Louth. 8pm.

FRIDAY U2's favourite band, Snow Patrol, take to the stage at Killarney Summerfest tonight following their US and Canadian tour. Tickets for the gig at Fitzgerald Stadium in Killarney, Co Kerry are €44.50/€49.50 and are available from www.ticketmaster.ie. Meatloaf and Status Quo play at the Summerfest on Saturday.
