There's an intriguing machine in the newly opened Snow + Rock store in Dundrum that takes an impression of your foot in order to enhance the fit of your ski boot.

It's a French system, adapted from podiatry, to improve performance and comfort. It's one of many technologically advanced sports items in this deceptively big store, including helmets with sound systems, really stylish and really expensive Kjus ski jackets and down-filled gilets, along with snowboarder gear, skis for all ages and "Cycle Surgery" bicycles costing from €350 to €6,000. It's the 26-year-old London company's claim that customers can see in their shops all the best brands from all over the world, in a broad price range. See www.snowandrock.com
