Foul play not suspected in fatal Dublin fire

Foul play is not suspected at this time in relation to a fire in South Dublin in the early hours of Thursday which left a woman with fatal injuries.

The emergency services responded to reports of a fire at a residence in Goatstown Close, in the Clonskeagh area following the receipt of 999/112 calls just after 2am, Dublin Fire Brigade said.

Four fire engines from Rathfarmham, Donnybrook, and Dolphin’s Barn went to the scene. On arrival they found the fire was well developed in a downstairs apartment. Nevertheless firefighters using breathing equipment entered the apartment and rescued a woman from the property.

However, the woman, who was in her 60s, died later in St Vincent’s University Hospital. There were no other injuries reported.

The scene was handed over to An Garda Siochana and investigators conducted a technical examination of the scene. The woman’s name has not been disclosed.
