Every Thursday night, the Cornerhouse bar on Coburg Street in Cork city hosts the Delta Blues Club, with local blues band The Dizzy Blues. Admission is free, 9pm. On the last Saturday of every month, an all-ages equivalent runs from 5pm to 8pm. 021-4500655

The Laois walking festival, which runs until July 29th, offers a variety of guided walks for participants of all levels. Today, for example, there's a Grade-B walk through Caponnellan Woods, Durrow meeting at the car park at 7.30pm. Cost is €2, pre-registration is needed. laois.ie/walking

DUBLIN

Science in the City is a 10-day festival, which runs until Sunday. Today's highlights include a recreation of the 1943 What is Life? lecture that eventually led to a greater understanding of the structure of DNA. The 10 Days in Dublin festival continues until Saturday, and performances are drawn from several genres, from comedy to theatre. It takes place in 25 different venues across Dublin. 10daysindublin.ie

Kilkee Civic Trust is hosting the second of four summer concerts tonight at the church in Kilkee, where the Irish Chamber Orchestra (below) performs Pachelbel's Canon. Tickets €20, 8pm. kilkeecivictrust.org

Orangefest is an annual month-long celebration that takes place in Carrickfergus. Today's events include a parade at 11am, with amusements and entertainment. Tomorrow features a re-enactment of the Siege of Carrickfergus. carrickfergus.org
