An evening of American blues takes place at the Cavan County Museum tonight from 9pm. In particular, the focus will be on American country blues from the 1920s and 1930s, with musicians including KJ Sweeney and Tony Clarke. Entry is €10. cavanmuseum.ie

GALWAY

The city is expecting an estimated 700,000 visitors to the Volvo Ocean Race and a nine-day festival coincides with the event, ending on Sunday. It contains a broad programme offering everything from sailing classes, to firework displays. TIPPERARY

The Butler Trail is a newly designated 30km route in Tipperary that takes in cannons, castles and churches associated with the Butlers who settled in the area in the 13th century. discoverireland.ie/thebutlertrail

KILKENNY

Open trad sessions take place every Wednesday night in Cleere's Bar and Theatre in Kilkenny. Generally they start at 9.30pm and the core focus is on the tune, so storytellers and poets take note. cleeres.com

WEXFORD

An Irish-American Day takes place in New Ross today, and includes a reading of the Declaration of Independence at noon, and a re-enactment of the Boston Tea Party between 3pm and 4pm at the Dunbrody Famine Ship. irishamericaday.com
