She’s naughty all right, but is she any good? You could argue that the Santa Barbara pop singer (born Katheryn Hudson in 1984) has been more successful since she decided to spice up her musical output – we forget, or perhaps aren’t aware, that Perry released a gospel album, no less, in 2001, the theme and content of which was influenced by her Christian upbringing.

From 2007 onwards, the refurbished, remarketed Perry began to corner the market in risque pop. From the success of singles Ur So Gayand I Kissed a Girlshe has advanced the notion of herself as a controversial sort, although this has sometimes either backfired or made her look even more of a marketed pop star.

Did we say pop star? Perry is that, for certain, and this show looks set to have more sparkle and fizz than most acts of her stature and popularity.
