With a midwife mother and a molecular biologist father, Kele Okereke was always destined to be something of a somebody. Bloc Party, his currently-on-hiatus group, may have been a fairly big NMEbuzz band five years ago, but latterly Okereke has decided to relinquish the fame game and retreat back into the area of relative shyness from whence he came.

This isn’t surprising; after three albums, Bloc Party had quickly become part of the musical scenery that they once aspired to replace. Okereke, meanwhile, yearned to indulge his inner dance/ clubbing interests – the very same interests he had ignored while his erstwhile band were busy making waves to (as we have seen) no real effect.

The results of his ambitions can be seen in these gigs, in which the singer/frontman performing (without the aid of a safety net) and previewing tracks from his forthcoming solo debut album, The Boxer. Seconds away – round two!
