Stephanie Finch and The Company Men

Cry Tomorrow (((Belle Sound))) ***

Cry Tomorrow(((Belle Sound))) ***

This lot have been around before in separate guises: guitarists Chuck Prophet and Kelly Stoltz paid more dues than is perhaps necessary in the Americana/ roots fields; singer Stephanie Finch has collaborated with Mark Kozalek and played Judy Collins in a HBO biopic. There is, then, history. What wasn't expected was that the cumulative experiences and talents of each would produce such a smart little record. There is little of the Americana touches that Prophet and Stoltz used to forge moderately successful careers, and more of the type of contemporary alt.country and classic pop that Rilo Kiley and She & Him excel at. Songs such as Tina Goodbye, So Do Iand Wandering Sonhighlight a songwriting team that, if they stick with it, might strike gold. As it stands, though, C ry Tomorrowis all silver lining, and there ain't nothing wrong with that. See myspace.com/stephaniefinch music.
