Those Tunng boys are certainly busy this year; following Sam Genders' impressive Diagrams album at the start of the year, it is now Tunng frontman Mike Lindsay's turn to deviate just a tad from what we might expect from him. It's all Iceland's fault, apparently. After a Tunng festival date there two years ago, Lindsay returned, spending an extended period of time in the remote northeast town of Husavik, from where he initially recorded music by himself in a cabin that faced the Kinnafjoll (Cheek Mountains). As the days went by, however, word got out that an odd Englishman was on the island, and before you could say Eyjafjallajökull, he was joined by various Icelandic musicians, eager to help. The result is yet another slice of forked-Tunng idiosyncrasy – part wonderfully odd pop music, part ingrained experimental folk. cheekmountainthief.co.uk
