Biffy Clyro

Opposites 14th Floor/ Warners****

These Scots mightn't ever get over X Factor winner Matt Cardle covering one of their songs (Many of Horror, aka When We Collide), but Biffy Clyro can always take comfort in the fact that their new 20-track double album brings them right back into the alt.rock territory that first inspired them. The East Ayrshire band's ambitions might have been thwarted if it weren't for the wide range of material and the level of creative bravado on display. From bagpipes (Stingin' Belle) to Mariachi brass (Spanish Radio), from alt.rock (A Girl and His Cat, Little Hospitals) to enormodome anthems (Black Chandelier, Biblical), Opposites has it well and truly sewn up. Those looking for time signature bombshells as well as Planet Pop choruses will find some sort of salvation here. biffyclyro.com
