Jarvis Anderson, the lead singer and producer for Boulder, Colorado five-piece Iglu Hartly, reckons that his band’s music is akin to the scene in The Wizard of Oz when the movie changes from monochrome to Technicolor.

It’s not giving too much away to state that Iglu Hartly’s genre-blending sonic template is akin to something along the lines of The Pretenders meets The Pointer Sisters singing Tina Turner tunes in a Tokyo karaoke bar. The core three band members – Anderson is joined by former fellow University of Colorado students Sam Martin and Simon Katz – started off in California’s Echo Park, where the doors of Hollywood nightclubs opened for them when bookers heard the vibrant mish-mash of styles bouncing off each other.

From there, it was but a short hop, skip and jump to the release of their dizzy debut, And Then Boom. When you see the band live, you’ll realise why they so named their album.
