Monster Truck has built quite a reputation for itself as a left- of-centre alternative venue in its compact Francis St location in recent years. Now it’s taken a leap into the heart of the Cultural Quarter by staking a claim on the space that housed the Original Print Gallery. It will be interesting to see what sort of impact it has there.

The gallery kicks off with a three-person show devoted to sound. The title comes from a JG Ballard story in which audible music has been supplanted by “ultrasonic music”.

The show features pieces by Julian Hackett and Sharon Phelan who use very low frequencies “sculpted through mediums such as water” in the case of the former. Phelan utilises multiple bass drums and toms.

To conclude, Lesley Flanigan will perform Amplifications, her project for speaker electronics and solo voice on June 15th at 8pm. Using her own wooden instruments, Flanigan "sculpts a strange sonic atmosphere".
