Cannabis valued at €1.5m seized at Rosslare Europort

Seizure is latest in a series of significant drug finds in recent weeks

Revenue’s Customs officers have seized 77kgs of herbal cannabis discovered in a container unloaded from a ferry in Rosslare Europort, Co Wexford.

The seizure, valued at €1.5 million, follows another seizure by Customs officers at Dublin Airport last week, when cocaine valued at €1.1 million was found and three arrests were made.

In a join Garda-Customs operation, also last week, cannabis valued at €6.9 million, and linked to the Kinahan cartel, was discovered in a commercial premises in Co Kilkenny.

The latest seizure, which took place at Rosslare on Monday, was as a result of the routine profiling of freight, which involves tracking the movements of containers or vehicles in a bid to spot unusual or high-risk trends.

The container, which had been shipped from Cherbourg in France, was unaccompanied, meaning no arrests have yet been made.

In May, 140kg of cannabis valued at €2.8 million was discovered in Rosslare. The drugs had also been shipped into the Republic onboard a ferry from Cherbourg.
