A COMPANY founded by a former Ernst & Young emerging ethnic entrepreneur of the year has made a €1.67 million settlement with the Revenue arising from the under declaration of PAYE and PRSI.

Word Perfect Translations Ltd, Fortlawn Park, Blanchardstown, Dublin, was established in 2001 by Olga Gashi, a Russian linguist who came to Ireland in 1996, and her Albanian husband, Jimmy.

In 2007 Ms Gashi won the Ernst & Young award for emerging ethnic entrepreneur of the year. The company’s settlement included interest and penalties of €850,390. Efforts to contact Mr or Ms Gashi yesterday were not successful.

Word Perfect has supplied services to the courts, hospitals, the refugee council and to Quinn Direct, according to testimonials on its website.

The Government publication Iris Oifigiúilyesterday published the names of 83 tax defaulters who made settlements totalling more than €17 million.

Among the settlements were 36 for amounts exceeding €100,000, of which seven exceeded €500,000. Three of that seven exceeded €1 million.

Robert C Walsh, Balnagowan House, Dartry, Dublin, a solicitor and real estate investor, made a settlement of €1.36 million arising from the under-declaration of income tax, capital gains tax and VAT.

He was one of a number of professionals on the list.

Others were: Eamonn Lee, accountant, Seapark, Malahide, Dublin, (€195,000); Seán McGrath, doctor, Ballagh House, Boyne Hill, Kilcarn, Navan, Co Meath, (€54,384); Dorothy Niall, Conranstown House, Castletowngeoghan, Mullingar, Co Westmeath, (€186,016); O’Sullivan Associates/Cathal O’Sullivan, solicitor, Herbert Street, Dublin, (€209,322 and €790,681 respectively); Odran J Rochford, solicitor, Village Green, Tallaght, Dublin, (€378,912); Ghani Talpur, doctor, Dunvale Grove, Frankfield, Cork, (€31,682); and Eamonn Twomey, accountant, St Mary’s Road, Midleton, Co Cork, (€185,171).

Restaurateur Josephine Meow Yoong Kam, O’Connell Street, Waterford, made a settlement of €1.14 million. PA Dunne Construction Ltd and PA Dunne Building Contractors Ltd, both of Garryvoe Lower, Garryvoe, Co Cork, made settlements of €849,416 and €123,790 respectively, arising from the under-declaration of PAYE/PRSI, VAT and corporation tax.

Brian Whitehead, a concert promotor from St Patrick’s Road, Walkinstown, Dublin, made a settlement of €175,000.
