The Institute of Directors has elected Ms Eileen Gleeson, managing director of FCC Shandwick Ltd, and Mr Clive Brownless, assistant managing director of Guinness Ireland Group, as members to its council.

Telecommunications group Cable & Wireless has appointed Mr Paul Byrne as managing director of its new Global Networks Ireland division. Mr Byrne was previously business solutions manager with the company. Also at Cable & Wireless, Mr Tadhg Foley has been promoted to the role of managing director of the Irish systems integration division. He was previously managing director of Topology Systems, a company acquired by Cable & Wireless in April 2000.

Dr Joan Gilvarry FRCPI has been appointed medical director at the Irish Medicines Board. Dr Gilvarry was formerly acting medical director with the board.

Setanta Asset Management has appointed Mr John Reynolds as new client services manager. Mr Reynolds joins Setanta from Mercers.

Mr Christian Marsden has taken up the position of account manager for the Ireland and Scotland channel of 3Com Corporation. Mr Marsden, a graduate of Nottingham University, joined 3Com 15 months ago.

Mr Thierry Artaud has joined geographic data company Mapflow as European business development director. Mr Artaud was previously European sales manager at Lake Communications.

Grβinne Byrne Communications has appointed Ms Tracy Kelly as account manager. Ms Kelly, a graduate of LSB, joins Grβinne Byrne from Drury Communications.

B&Q has announced the appointment of Mr Diarmuid Walsh as general manager, B&Q Ireland. Mr Walsh was formerly operations director at Hampden Group, where he ran the Homebase franchise operation in Ireland.
