Cable TV and telecoms group UPC has introduced a bulk messaging service for business customers. Its SMS messaging will enable businesses to reach customers, partners or employees instantly and will cost 6 cent per text. Discounts are available for large volumes and it will be available on a national basis.

Gavan Smyth, business services director with UPC, said the new service would support businesses to “drive more effective communication with their customer base and employees”.

Pembroke Communications has poached Alan Tyrrell, internal communications manager at Ulster Bank in Dublin, as deputy managing director.

Tyrrell will join the agency in November and work alongside MD Michael O’Keeffe, a former Dublin intercounty footballer and ex-Shamrock Rovers midfielder.

Before Ulster Bank, Tyrrell held a senior communications role with insurer Aviva and also worked for Slattery Communications.

Murray O’Laoire Design Ltd appears to be back in fashion at the Companies Registration Office almost a year after being struck off and dissolved.

The company, an offshoot of the well-known architectural firm Murray O’Laoire, which collapsed in 2010, filed an application to be restored to the register of companies on August 10th.

It also filed separate abridged accounts for 2009, 2010 and 2011.

The balance sheet for the year to the end of August 2011 shows a deficit of €3,458, indicating the existence of a “material uncertainty”, according to a note from the auditors.

The accounts state the company is not trading and indicate that the deficit is, in effect, a bank overdraft.
