Family: Lives with his wife, Helen, at Cos Cob, Connecticut. They have three daughters - Colette, Eleanor and Sarah.
Background: He is a native of Belfast and an economics graduate of Queen's University, Belfast.
Career: He joined the Irish Development Authority (IDA) in 1974 and went on to become the director of IDA's New York office.
He transferred to Bank of Ireland Asset Management (BIAM) in 1991 as president of BIAM's North American operation and currently is international director and president of BIAM, with responsibility for all of BIAM's operations outside Ireland (USA, Canada, UK, Europe, Japan and Australia).
He is also a director of the New Ireland Fund.
