John Wilson: Good moves from Marks & Spencer to make buying wine easier

Wines for the Weekend: A fruity Italian white and a light red from New Zealand with a touch of spice

Marks & Spencer has two categories of wine, both designed to make buying wine easier for the consumer. The Found range includes wines from lesser-known regions or grape varieties and offers a great opportunity to discover genuinely interesting new wines without spending a fortune. The Classics range, as the name suggests, is made up of well-known names. As with the Found range, the Classics generally punch above their weight and offer great value for money.

M&S Found Ribolla Gialla 2021, Venezie Giula, Italy, €12

A very attractive white wine with juicy ripe pears and melons, balanced nicely by a refreshing acidity. Try it with lighter herby pasta dishes or shellfish.

M&S Classics No 38 Marlborough Pinot Noir 2020, New Zealand, €18

Pale in colour with light juicy red cherry and raspberry fruits and a touch of spice. Great with seared breast of duck, tuna or salmon.
