Two injured in crash during German World Cup advertising shoot

63-year-old man airlifted to hospital in serious condition

Two people were injured, one seriously, when a car driven by a 19-year-old touring car driver crashed during an advertising shoot involving members of the Geman national team near their World Cup training base in Italy.

A 63-year-old man had to be airlifted to hospital in Bolzano after being hit by a car driven by DTM driver Pascal Wehrlein in a Mercedes-Benz. His wife suffered shock, while a marshal was also injured.

Schalke centre back Benedikt Höwedes was a passenger in the car driven by Wehrlein, but both were uninjured. Wehrlein and German Formula One star Nico Rosberg were guests at the World Cup training camp in Passeirtal .

As a result of the incident, Germany’s game against their under-20 side, scheduled for Tuesday night, was cancelled.
