Euro 2016: FAI given extra 6,500 tickets for Republic’s games

The FAI has received an additional allocation of just over 6,500 tickets for Ireland’s games at the European Championships, an increase of a quarter on its original allocation for the tournament.

The association will now have 16,087 tickets to be distributed amongst Irish supporters for the team’s opening game, against Sweden at the Stade de France on June 13th, rather the originally anticipated 13,000 while the biggest proportional increase is for the final group game, against Italy in Lille, for which an additional 2,320 have been sourced from Uefa bringing the total to 9,320.

There are an extra 1,095 for the match against group top seeds Belgium in Bordeaux on the 18th, but this still looks to be the biggest problem for fans aiming to attend all three games with just 7,095 available through the association which is currently working to process some 275,000 applications.

It is not yet known what that figure would be if multiple applications were stripped out but it appears that the games will still all be very heavily oversubscribed.

The association has warned those who have applied to ensure that there is sufficient money in their account or credit on their cards to complete the purchase over the coming weeks as no specific warning will be given before payment is taken.
