Video: Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane attend Super Bowl 50

What do international management teams do in their spare time a few months before leading their team to the European Championships? Attend Super Bowl 50 of course.

Martin O'Neill and Roy Keane were in San Francisco last night to see the Denver Broncos beat the Carolina Panthers 24-10 to clinch the Super Bowl and O'Neill even popped into the BBC studio for a chat.

The Ireland manager said his assistant was “too shy” to join him but told Mark Chapman that he and Keane had made an agreement that if they qualified for the Euros they would go to the Super Bowl. And they did.

O’Neill seemed to know his NFL quite well as he spent 10 minutes analysing the game with the BBC panel.

Perhaps the best bit of analysis came when he compared Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton to Roy Keane. Struggling to get that one.

He also said that he was a Peyton Manning fan (the Denver Broncos quarterback) but in the end he, wrongly, tipped the Panthers to win.

O'Neill struck up a rapport with fellow analyst Osi Umenyiora within seconds as the former New York Giants defensive end enquired as to the wherabouts of Robbie Keane.

To which O’Neill replied: “he’s busy in pre-season training. The lazy sod.”
