Roy Keane pours cold water United rumours

Roy Keane has dismissed reports linking him with a return to Old Trafford, explaining that he is more than happy in his role as assistant manager with the Republic of Ireland.

Reports in some newspapers last week suggested that Louis van Gaal, who could be announced as David Moyes permanent successor at Manchester United this week, would be interested in adding Keane to his backroom team.

But there never appeared to be any real substance to the claims, with Keane taking the opportunity to set the record straight this morning.

Speaking to Ray D’Arcy on Today FM to promote the ’Shades Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind’ campaign, Keane stated: “People keep asking me about other jobs. I’ve got a job. I’m very happy in my job.

“Whatever is going on at certain clubs is really none of my business. I’ve been a manager before, I look at David Moyes and I don’t like what happened to him but regarding other issues is none of my business and it doesn’t keep me awake at night.

Keane was also asked about his relationship with Alex Ferguson, who remains on the board at Old Trafford and will have a large input into who is appointed.

After their very public falling out, the former United captain was asked if there was any prospect of a reconciliation, answering: “Not sure, probably not but I’ve said that about other people.

“Football’s a funny old game and you get a clash of personalities sometimes but it’s something that’s not on my mind at the moment to be honest with you.”
