Memphis Depay flies to Manchester for United medical

21-year-old PSV attacker set to complete €34.5 million Old Trafford switch

Memphis Depay flew to Manchester on Monday to undergo his medical for his proposed £25m move to Manchester United, with the club hoping to announce the forward had passed it imminently.

The 21-year-old has agreed to join from PSV Eindhoven in the close season, subject to being given the all-clear by United's medical department. Depay, who was PSV's top scorer in their Dutch title winning campaign, will be confirmed as United's first major signing when the transfer goes through.

Louis van Gaal is keen to complete as much of his squad strengthening as early as is possible, with the manager considering moves for Juventus's Paul Pogba and Borussia Dortmund's Mats Hummels.

He may also have to replace David de Gea as the goalkeeper is yet to sign fresh terms and appears likely to join Real Madrid in the summer. Tottenham Hotspur's Hugo Lloris and Chelsea's Peter Cech are among the potential candidates should De Ge depart. There are also the futures of several United players to be decided including Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao.

The club will listen to offers for Van Persie and although Falcao started Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal ahead of him, United may not take up the option to sign the on-loan Monaco striker permanently.
