Louis van Gaal has confirmed that David de Gea will miss Manchester United’s Europa League last-32 clash with FC Midtjylland.

The Spain goalkeeper is absent with a knee injury sustained in the warm-up ahead of the first leg in Denmark, while Chris Smalling will be assessed after sustaining a knock colliding with an advertising hoarding at Shrewsbury.

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Will Keane are other doubts after sustaining knocks in Monday's FA Cup tie, while Antonio Valencia (ankle) and Adnan Januzaj (cup-tied) trained with the squad on the eve of the game but will miss out.

Donald Love comes back into contention and the returning Marcos Rojo could play 20 minutes, but Wayne Rooney (knee), Marouane Fellaini (muscle injury) and Matteo Darmian (shoulder) are out, as are Phil Jones, Luke Shaw, Ashley Young and Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Meanwhile Harry Kane will miss Tottenham's second leg against Fiorentina as the striker recovers from a broken nose.

Kane had an operation on Wednesday and will sit out Thursday’s clash at White Hart Lane but he is expected to return in time for Spurs’ Premier League match at home to Swansea on Sunday.

Mousa Dembele is also unavailable with a groin injury while Tom Carroll (Achilles), Jan Vertonghen (knee) and Clinton Njie (knee) have also been ruled out.
