Virgin Media to show Champions League on Wednesday nights

Irish rights packages split between LiveScore, Virgin Media and RTÉ

Virgin Media will show one Champions League match per gameday as well as all Europa League and Europa Conference League matches for the next three seasons until the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

The broadcaster previously had rights to show every match for the last three years but that package in Ireland was secured by LiveScore back in June.

That means that the streaming service will show every match for free on their app, RTÉ will show one match on Tuesdays and Virgin Media will show one on Wednesdays.

RTÉ also acquired the rights to show the Champions League final and Tuesday highlights while Virgin Media will show every game in the Europa League, including the final, the Super Cup and the Europa Conference League - the qualifiers for which currently include Bohemians, Dundalk and Shamrock Rovers.

BT Sport also holds rights in Ireland and will continue to show all games for its Irish subscribers.

It means that Champions League coverage in Ireland will now be shown across four different broadcasters - LiveScore, RTÉ, Virgin Media and BT Sport.

Virgin had previously announced that they had lost the rights to show every match for the next three years after an increase in the price due to a new competitor coming into the market. In June it was announced that the new competitor was LiveScore who had recently entered the broadcast rights market by streaming live matches from Serie A and the Eredivisie.
