Sir, – Our soldiers killed 300 of their soldiers at the heroic Siege of Jadotville, without suffering any fatalities themselves.
But in the spirit of reconciliation and inclusion so evident in our recent commemorations of 1916, where are the names and details of those 300 fighters recorded? I suggest a plaque with all of their names should be installed at Grangegorman cemetery and that the appropriate ambassador be invited to attend a suitable ceremony.
If we could do it for the 125 British victims of the Rising, surely we can do it for the 300 (mostly poor and African) victims of Jadotville. – Yours, etc,
MIKE SCOTT,
