Poor pavements

Sir, – On a recent visit to the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital, I was struck at how poor the pavements are on Adelaide Road in Dublin. The large trees are causing parts of pavement to crack and rise and there are also parts where portions have been dug up and badly repaired with tarmac. Surely Dublin City Council has a budget to keep pavements safe for pedestrians particularly outside a city hospital?

Given that the hospital deals with patients of all ages with poor or ailing sight this is a major health and safety issue. Any patient with poor sight and no one to guide them is bound to fall. It is an accident waiting to happen. – Yours, etc,

TERESA CARROLL,

Dublin 24.
