Egypt court releases two Al Jazeera journalists

Journalists released on bail but the case is not dismissed

An Egyptian court has ordered the release of two Al Jazeera journalists jailed for more than a year. Fahmy was ordered to pay a bail of 250,000 Egyptian pounds (around 32,890 dollars). His colleague Egyptian journalist Baher Mohammed was released without bail. Their release was ordered more than a week after Egyptian authorities released and deported Australian Peter Greste. A Cairo court released two Al Jazeera journalists Mohamed Fahmy and Baher Mohamed after more than 400 days in jail, but did not dismiss the case against them.

Judge Hassan Farid said the next hearing would be on Feb. 23. Fahmy was released on 250,000 Egyptian pound ($32,765) bail, while Mohamed was released with no bail. ($1 = 7.6300 Egyptian pounds)

It is unclear what repurcussions this may have on Irish-Egyptian teenager Ibrahim Halawa, whose case has been postponed until March 29th. Mr Halawa was arrested after an August 2013 demonstration demanding the reinstatement of ousted president Mohamed Morsi.
