Trinity College Chapel Choir is on tour in Hong Kong and Macau this week by invitation from the Anglican Province of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui. The choir will sing at liturgies and concerts in St John's Cathedral and Ming Hua Theological College as part of its 70th anniversary celebrations, and in Kowloon and Macau including Bloomsday celebrations being hosted by Irish consul Mr Peter Ryan. This visit is building on the strong relations that have been established between Ming Hua Theological College and the Church of Ireland Theological Institute in recent years assisted by Dublin University Far Eastern mission. The choir will participate in a symposium A Life in Prayer and Music where one of the keynote speakers will be Dr Kerry Houston, Director of Chapel Music.

This weekend the Bishop of Porvoo, the Rt Rev Bjorn Vikstrom and the Diocesan Council of Porvoo will visit the Diocese of Cork, Cloyne & Ross under the auspices of the Porvoo Agreement. Today the Diocesan Synod will be held in Rochestown Park Hotel and tomorrow morning the Bishop of Cork will preside at the Eucharist in St Fin Barre’s Cathedral where the preacher will be the Bishop of Porvoo.

This evening at 8pm in St Ann’s Church, Dublin, the Mornington Singers’ summer concert will feature works by Hildegarde of Bingen, Lassus, Tomkins, Bach, Schnikke and Esenvald.

Tomorrow morning RTÉ will broadcast a celebration of the Eucharist to mark the 300th anniversary of St Michael’s Church, Aghold, Co Carlow. The celebrant will be the Ven Andrew Orr. In St George’s Church, Belfast, as part of the bi-centenary celebrations, the preacher at the 11am Eucharist will be the Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church, the Most Rt Rev David Chillingworth, a former parishioner of St George’s.

In Dublin tomorrow, at 3pm, the annual Ecumenical Service will take place at St Colmcille’s Holy Well, Ballycullen, while in St Patrick’s Cathedral, at 3.15pm, the Friends Festival Service will be held followed by a Garden Party. In St Michael’s Church, Ballina, at 3.30pm, the Tuam Diocesan Mothers Union Festival Service will be held at which the Rev Stephen McWhirter will preach.

Under the auspices of the Irish Church Missions, the TC Hammond Theological Lecture will be given in St Catherine’s Church, Thomas Street, Dublin, on Monday at 7.30pm. The lecturer will be Dr DA, Carson from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Deerfield, Illinois.

This year marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of the composer Charles Wood. On Wednesday evening, at 8pm, in the Royal School, Armagh, the Charles Wood Festival and Summer School will be launched with a lecture on the life and music of the composer by Prof Jeremy Dibble from Durham University, and a recital by the Lay Vicars Choral of Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin, directed by Ian Keatley.

On Thursday evening at 8pm, the Irish tenor, Paul Byrom, with a 45-piece orchestra from Chicago, will perform the Great American Songbook in Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin, in support of the Bishops' Appeal. Tickets may be booked at christchurchcathedral.ie. On Friday, Summer Music in Sandford continues at 1.10pm when there will be a recital by Jenny Robinson (recorder), Andrew Robinson (viola de gamba) and David Adams (harpiscord).
