There were over 60 arrests at the Eminem concert at Slane Castle, Co Meath, at the weekend for offences related to public order, assault and drug possession.

Gardaí said, however, these figures were “very much in line” with the arrest numbers for previous events of this scale.

Based on what the force said were provisional figures, there were 22 arrests for public order offences, one for drink-driving, 35 for minor drug offences and five reported assaults.

All of the incidents will be processed and investigated over the coming weeks.

In a statement, a Garda spokesman said the force and concert promoters MCD would like to thank the residents of Slane and the 80,000 fans who attended yesterday’s event.

Superintendent Michael Devine said: “The vast majority of fans heeded the advice given in advance of the event which ensured everyone had a safe and enjoyable experience.”

Security was more than usually tight for the Slane concert - the second such event at the Co Meath castle this year.

On the approach to the venue, ticket holders were subjected to numerous searches for alcohol, drugs and potential weapons.
