Bernadette Madden has been holding a Christmas Exhibition at her Haddington Road studio (right) for nearly 20 years, where patrons and the public are invited to browse through new art works while having a Christmas drink. Over the years she has steadily built up a stock-pile of craft-ware, which she also displays at the exhibition and which make for quirky affordable Christmas gifts.
Scraps from her fabulously rich batik wall-hangings are incorporated into covered notecards and diaries, extra silk from her silk-screenings is recycled as delicate scarves. Madden feeds her knitting hobby by knitting woollen scarves and original outfits for the cloth dolls that she also sells as children’s gifts. Bernadette Madden’s Christmas Exhibition opens next Saturday (noon to 6pm) and runs throughout December. Gifts from €10.
