Mouth-watering food trails not to be missed, cookery course for busy people and fruit on the go

Eat, drink and by merry on tapas trail
The Campo Viejo Tapas Trail is back, and Galway is joining Dublin and Cork on the route map. The trail takes in four restaurants in each city, and the €30 ticket fee includes a signature tapa and a glass of wine at each. The event kicks off in Dublin on June 3rd, moves to Cork on July 7th and Galway on August 26th.

Dublin restaurants taking part are: Bagots Hutton, Drury Buildings, Salamanca, and Zaragoza. In Cork the trail will visit Arthur Mayne’s, Bodega, Brick Lane, and Zamora, and the Galway line-up is Cava, House Hotel, Sheridan’s, and The Kitchen. For dates, times and tickets, see campoviejotapastrail.ie.

Get fruity
Pass right by those Danish pastries, collect a heathy snack or piece of fruit from the office's daily delivery box, and go straight to the smug zone. The healthy choice is better for you, and maybe productivity will increase as a result. Dublin businesses including Amazon, Symantec and Danske Bank believe so, being among those that have ordered deliveries for their staff from The Fruit People.

The fruit and healthy snack delivery company was set up by brothers Brian and Barry Dennis, who had come across similar enterprises when they left the family car sales business in 2009 to ride out the recession in Australia and the Middle East.

Back in Dublin and with things looking up, they started The Fruit People in 2013. As well as fruit, snacks from Sprout juices, Bunalun and God Snack Co can be included in deliveries. They also deliver fruit baskets as gifts. For prices and online ordering, see thefruitpeople.ie, tel: 01-5345821.

Cookery course for busy people
There are lots of reasons why one might end up "Cooking For One" – the title of a new cookery class devised by Carmel Somers of Good Things Cafe & Cookery School in Durrus, Co Cork.

“I have compiled a list of things for the busy person. The class is also ideal for students, as they will learn how to plan and avoid wasting food,” says Somers.

There is also the possibility that we might find ourselves taking over responsibility for feeding ourselves after relying on the cooking skills of another. Lots of reasons then to plan a trip to west Cork for this class with one Ireland’s best cooks, on Saturday, June 6th (10am-5.30pm, €160). To book, see thegoodthingscafe.com.

A treat for Sligo food-lovers
The Só Sligo Food Trail is part of the town's food festival and Yeats Day celebrations running from June 10th to 14th. There are 26 restaurants, cafes and wine bars taking part in the trail and each will offer a tapa-style dish for €5.

Duo of duck, spring roll and pate, from Eala Bhán; naturally smoked haddock rissoles with summer salsa from Osta Café, and Prosecco and oysters from WB’s Coffee House are among the great value that will be on offer. The full events programme is at SoSligo.ie.
