This is a dish that has been made famous by a certain Swedish furniture shop, but in my busy house, it’s a tasty, fast comforting dish that my three kids love. You can make your own meatballs, they’re not tricky, or if you’re tight on time, swap out for shop-bought meatballs.

Any plain meatballs will work with this recipe, or you can use chicken or vegetarian versions which go great too. What brings it all together is the creamy sauce and comforting mash. It’s perfect for this time of year.

Don’t be put off by adding jam at the end, lingonberry jam can be bought in the Swedish furniture shop or you can swap it out for a dollop of cranberry sauce. Coleslaw is an addition we love but it’s totally optional.

I’m an avid barbecue chef all year round and I’ve often cooked the meatballs on my Kamado ceramic grill. I love these grills because you can smoke, grill or bake on them. It’s basically just an outdoor oven. The main thing I like is to show people when it comes to barbecuing that it’s not just about big, heavy pieces of meat, you can barbecue almost anything and you can turn it into beautiful dishes.
